Biographical Sketch of Classic Poetry Aide

Dear Visitors,

Welcome to Classic Poetry!  I am a writer and former professor.  I completed a doctorate in British, American, and World Literature in 1987 at Ball State University.  In my dissertation, titled "W. B. Yeats' Transformations of Eastern Religious Concepts,” I argued that Yeats actually misinterpreted many of the basic Eastern religious and philosophical concepts that he attempted to portray in some of his poems and plays.

In addition to a doctorate in literature, I hold two masters degrees also from Ball State University, one in German 1971 and one in English 1984.  I completed my undergraduate work at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1967.

I taught English composition, the honors humanities sequence, and poetry at Ball State University from 1983 to 1998.  I have published academic essays in The Explicator.  I have also published a number of original poems in both print journals and ezines such as Salt River Review, The Fairfield Review, and RATTLE: POETRY FOR THE 21st CENTURY.

I serve as the Feature Writer for Poetry at Suite101.com and as a Contributing Writer for Alternative Spirituality and American History at Suite101.com.

The purpose of this site is to help you in your study of poetry—a subject that has always been close to my heart.  This site will offer the following:

(1) poetry from ancient Sanskrit to contemporary American poetry,

(2) scholarly and critical works about the poetry,

(3) guidance in writing essays about poetry.

I welcome the opportunity to offer assistance in your study of poetry.  I answer questions about poetry at AllExperts.com.

Also, I offer my free online course, Understanding Poetry, to help you understand, appreciate, and write about poetry.

Thank you for visiting Classic Poetry at Stone Gulch!

Blessings,

Linda Sue Grimes
